On the structure of standard von Neumann algebras

Abstract

Let H be a complex separable Hilbert space. A von Neumann algebra $M\subseteq B(H)$ is said to be standard if there is a conjugation C on H such that CMC=M'. In this paper we determine which type I von Neumann algebras are standard.
