Characteristic and lower characteristic of bounded linear operators

Abstract

In this paper we introduce the notion of the characteristic and lower character- istic of a bounded operator by means of the measure of weak noncompactness. We prove that if the lower characteristic of T is stricly positive then T is an upper semi-Fredholm. Finally, some examples are given.
