On the maximal gradient of a harmonic function in the unit disk

Abstract

This paper examines the problem of the maximum gradient of a harmonic function in the unit disk. Using a variational method, an estimate for the maximum gradient of the harmonic function at zero from the paper \cite{1} is derived in a different way.
An example, suggested by the proposed (new) estimation method, also shows that this estimate is not optimal.
